When Shayla's hospital is inundated with sick patients, she hears rumors that the "sickness" is actually a mysterious virus. Even with the city on the brink of an evacuation, Shayla remains professional and calm as she finishes her shift. It's not until much later when she comes face to face with the effects of the virus, that she realizes how serious things are.

Shayla wakes up after her car accident and rushes home to find her sister Lucy. When Lucy informs Shayla that the city has been evacuated and the Army has been shooting civilians, they know they have to leave. But where do they go?

After their city has been evacuated and Shayla and Lucy are preparing to leave, they finally see the effects of the mysterious "flu". This virus turns people into the walking undead. Shayla has to think fast and runs over a few "infected" people, only to see them get up as if nothing happened. They speed off unsure of where to go, when they see Chester. With nowhere else to go, Shayla and Lucy head for the house of an old friend of their dad's. Leonard has been waiting for this day. He answers Shayla's questions and informs her of the deadly consequences she and Lucy would face if they were to get caught by the Government.
